Dapoxetine: an evidence-based review of its effectiveness in treatment of premature ejaculation

Preliminary recommendations of the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual V (DSM-V) Committee suggest a DSM-V definition which parallels the definition recently adopted by the International Society for Sexual Medicine Segraves, 2010. Therefore, more trials are required to add further evidence for the efficacy of long-term dapoxetine use in PE. Erectile dуsfunction (ED) is a common сondition that affects men of all ages. Phase II trials

• It’s involved with regulating the mood (hence the use of these drugs for treating depression), but it’s also heavily involved with sexual function and ejaculation.
• Off-label oral selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are commonly prescribed for the treatment of PE.
• Further research is needed on how this structural dissimilarity causes the difference in their effects on PE.
• The rate of absorption is modestly decreased, but there is no effect of food on the elimination of dapoxetine or the exposure to dapoxetine, as assessed by the plasma concentration versus time AUC.

Before dapoxetine was approved for the treatment of lifelong premature ejaculation (LPE) in China, daily dosing with off-label sertraline was common. Food does not have a clinically significant effect on dapoxetine pharmacokinetics. The frequency of nausea is decreased after a high-fat meal (24% 7/29 of fasted subjects and 14% 4/29 of fed subjects, respectively). Dapoxetine is a medicine that is advised in people having premature ejaculation. Though the condition is common in many men at some stage of their lives, treatment is necessary when it bothers frequently.
